Dinsdale hits three homeruns to lead softball to sweep of Sage College

Troy, N.Y. – Junior catcher Lauren Dindsale (Harrington Park, N.J.) hit three homeruns as the Skidmore College softball team swept Sage College, 9-8, 12-6, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.

The 12-7 Thoroughbreds are off to their best start since the 2005 season, and are already two homers shy of tying last seasons 15 homeruns.

Skidmore came from behind in game one as they pushed four runs across the plate in the sixth inning en route to the 9-8 win. Down 7-5 in the stanza, the Thoroughbreds capitalized on three Sage errors and used a two-run double from sophomore Caiti Ketcham (North Clarendon, Vt.) to take a 9-8 lead into the seventh. Ketcham finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run scored.

Freshman Sam Crose held the Gators in the bottom of the seventh and got the win, fanning 11 with no walks and five earned in seven innings pitched.

Dinsdale was 2-for-4 in the opener with three runs scored and four RBI. Junior Michelle Anderson (Alfred, N.Y.) and freshman Darren Jarvis (Harvard, Mass.) each had two hits for Skidmore.

Skidmore took a quick 5-3 lead in the first inning of the nightcap before Dinsdale hit her second round-tripper of the day to put the visitors up 7-3. Her third knock came in the fourth with sophomore Charlotte Evans (Pawling, N.Y.) on base to go up 9-4.

The Thoroughbreds added three in the fifth inning before the game was called for darkness, with the 12-6 final.

Crose went five innings in the nightcap with five strikeouts and one walk in the win. Dinsdale was 2-for-two with two homeruns and four RBI to lead Skidmore.

The Thoroughbreds will host Elms College in a doubleheader on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
