Union softball takes two from Thoroughbreds

SCHENECTADY, NY -- The Union College softball team swept Liberty League rival Skidmore, 4-2 and 14-0 Saturday at Alexander Field. The Dutchwomen are now 23-5 overall and 2-2 in the league, while the Thoroughbreds fell to 18-11 and 0-4.

Union got four runs in the third inning of the first game in support of Ginni Sack (Burnt Hills). The junior improved to 10-2 and retired the first 13 batters she faced until the perfect game was broken up by Caitlin Ketchum (North Clarendon, VT) with a double in the fifth.

Sam Crose (Assonet, MA) took the loss for Skidmore, but struck out three in her six innings of work. Darren Jarvis (Harvard, MA) had two of the hits for the Thoroughbreds.

Game two featured explosive early innings for the Dutchwomen. They scored five in the first, seven in the third and tacked on two more in the fourth.

Crose, the starter for the Thoroughbreds, took the loss and is now 16-8, while Molly Canavan (Blue Bell, PA) pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief.  Lauren Dinsdale and Lauren Bernstein had the hits for Skidmore.

The Thoroughbreds travel to Utica for a pair on Sunday.
