ROCHESTER,, N.Y. – Beth Ameno and Sara Hutchinson threw complete game victories as the University of Rochester swept a Liberty League softball doubleheader from Skidmore College, 6-0 and 2-0.
Ameno pitched a one-hitter with one walk and 15 strikeouts in the opener. Rochetser backed her with 11 hits, three apiece by Lindsay Macaluso and Liz Slupinski. The Yellowjackets broke it open with five runs in the third inning on six hits. Ameno is 15-7 overall.
Hutchinson threw a four hitter in the nitecap with 10 strikeouts and no walks. She is 6-3. The Yellowjackets had just three hits, two coming in the third inning when they scored both runs.
Sam Crose took both losses for Skidmore. In game one, she yielded 11 hits, walked two, and struck out two. She gave up three hits in the nitecap. Both Rochester runs were unearned in game two. She walked one and struck out three. Crose is 12-6.
Skidmore is 14-8 overall, 0-2 in the Liberty League. Rochester is 21-8 overall, 2-0 in the Liberty League.
The Yellowjackets strung together five straight hits in the third inning of game one to take command. Five different players had RBIs in the inning. Ameno and Juliana Nicholson hit RBI doubles. The sixth run came in the fourth on a double by Macaluso, a sacrifice by Katie McLean, and a two-out double by Slupinski.
In game two, Macaluso doubled leading off the third. McLean reached on a two-base error by Skidmore that brought home Macaluso. Nikki DiSalvio singled to center, scoring McLean.
Charlotte Evans doubled with two outs in the sixth but Hutchinson ended the inning with her ninth strikeout, this one of Dinsdale.
