Potsdam, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team had its playoff hopes put on hold by Clarkson, 16-12. The Golden Knights snapped out of a seven-game losing stretch, improved their record to 4-8 overall and to 1-5 in the Liberty League. Skidmore is 6-6 and 2-3 Liberty.
The Knights,held a 10-7 lead at the half and out scored the Thoroughbreds 6-5 over the final 30 minutes. Clarkson built a 14-8 lead with just over 20 minutes to play, but Skidmore (6-6, 2-3) rallied back with three straight scores to trail by only three goals with 14 minutes remaining. The Knights, however, held off the Thoroughbreds over the final 10 minutes.
Sophomore Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, NY) led Skidmore with five points, including four goals. Freshman Lauren Madden (Huntington, NY) also scored four goals for the Thoroughbreds.
Senior Courtney DeStefano (Rehoboth, MA) and freshman Rachel Klein (Far Hills, NJ) combined for nine saves in the Skidmore goal. Senior Laura Flynn (Wellesley, MA) paced the Thoroughbreds in ground balls with six.
