Big second half carries #14 Trinity past Skidmore

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Trinity College broke open a tight game by scoring the final seven goals of the contest for an 18-9 women's lacrosse win over Skidmore College at Wachenheim Field on Sunday. 

The Thoroughbreds are 0-1, while the 14th ranked Bantams improve to 2-0.

Skidmore grabbed an early 3-1 lead on goals by Kimberly Segalas, Amber Kinsey and Abbie Klaus.  Trinity responded with five straight, capped by Jennifer Calver's free position goal at 7:47 to make it 6-3.  The Thoroughbreds scored three of the next four goals to pull within one at the half, 7-6.  Lindsay Stavola had two of the three goals, while Klaus had the other.

Stavola tied it 7-7 after Segalas won the second half opening draw.  The Bantams came back again with a 4-0 run that included a pair of goals by Rachel Romanowsky to lead 11-7  Skidmore got a pair of goals 11 seconds apart from Lauren Madden (20:41) and Abbie Hamlin (20:30) to pull the Thoroughbreds to within two, 11-9.  Trinity then went on its 7-0 run to close out the game.  Romanowsky and Alisen Urquhart had two goals each in the run.

Stavola led the Thoroughbreds with three goals and an assist.  Segalas had a goal and an assist, four caused turnovers,  and a team-high five ground balls. Klaus had two goals, Madden had a goal, an assist, five draw controls, and Lauren McCarthy had six draw controls and four ground balls.

Romanowsky finished with seven goals and an assist, while Caitlin Irvine had four goals for Trinity.  The Bantams converted seven of nine free position shots.

Courtney DeStefano had six saves in goal for Skidmore, while Gina Dinallo had eight saves and eight ground balls for Trinity.

The Thoroughbreds are at Goucher College on March 10.
