Segalas scores six in 17-6 lacrosse win over Castleton

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Sophomore Kimberly Segalas (Stamford, Conn.) scored a game-high six goals and added two assists to lead the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team past Castleton State, 17-6, Monday evening at Wachenheim Field. 

The Thoroughbreds have won three in a row to go 3-1.  Castleton falls to 1-1.

The Spartans struck first as they took a 1-0 lead off an unassisted goal by junior Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, N.Y.).  Skidmore then broke the game open with four unanswered goals.  Segalas started and finished the run with two goals, sandwiching scores by freshman Lauren Madden(Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Abbie Klaus (Bethesda, Md.).

SophomoreLindsay Stavola (Montauk, N.Y) added two goals to lead another 4-0 run before Castleton notched a goal with 1:25 left in the first half to put the score at 8-3 going into the half.

Skidmore scored four more goals to open the second half, with Segalas tallying two more goals, before the Spartans responded with two of their own to make the score 12-5.

The Thoroughbreds would go on a 5-1 run down the stretch in the last 19:54 of regulation for the 17-6 final. 

Segalas tallied eight points in the winning effort while adding eight ground balls and two draw controls.  Klaus finished with four goals and Stavola recorded two goals and two assists.

Senior Courtney DeStefano (Rehoboth, Mass.) and freshman Rachel Klein combined for seven saves Skidmore in the win.

The Thoroughbreds are on the road for the next five contests, beginning at Amherst on March 25 at 7 p.m.
