Kellye Caufield (Monroe, Conn.) scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game, but it was not enough as the Union College Dutchwomen claimed a 64-50 victory over Skidmore College in Liberty League action Tuesday evening.
Union remains in a first-place tie in the conference standings with St. Lawrence as they improve to 7-1 in the league and 13-5 overall. Skidmore falls to 6-13 and 3-5 in conference play.
Both teams traded baskets for the majority of the first half until Union put together a 10-0 run started by a lay-up from senior Michelle Rogers (Clarence, N.Y.) with 2:50 left in the stanza to go into the intermission with a 24-13 lead.
In the second half, Skidmore chipped away to within six, 45-39, off of a jumper by Caufield with 4:14 left in regulation, but the Dutchwomen held off the rest of the way for the 64-50 win.
Union shot a blistering 8-14 from the three-point line and were 14 of 17 from the foul line, despite being outrebounded 32-26.
Caufield scored 15 points and was 6-8 from the field, while adding seven rebounds. Sharyln Harper (New York, N.Y.) also finished in double-figures with 13 points.
Rogers notched 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to lead the Dutchwomen.
Skidmore will travel to Clarkson and St. Lawrence this weekend for two conference match-ups.
