Thoroughbreds sweep Utica

Utica, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Utica College Saturday. The men won 140-112, while the women won 159-92.

For the men Doug Pilawa qualified his 11-dive, 1-meter list for nationals with a combined score of 481.70, also a new college record. His 6-dive list performance was also a new college record, 297.10.

The Thoroughbreds were each strong in the relays, winning both men and women winning the 400 Medley and 400 Free Relays. The women's medley relay of Chelsea Halsor, Sonia Segal-Smith, Kelsey Carson, and Heather Friedman won in 4:31.68, while the men's team of Jesse Adler, John Tyler Norton, Sam Leibenhaut, Tom Saglimbeni took first in 4:07.31.

The women's free relay of Segal-Smith, Elaine Burns, Friedman, Carson won in 3:59.81 and the men's free relay of Norton, Saglimbeni, Adler, Kyle Bessa-McManus was first in 3:36.87.

Adding to their relay wins were Carson, Saglimbeni, Norton and Adler to end the day with four first place finishes. Individually, Carson won the 200 Butterfly (2:27.98) and 200 Breaststroke (2:50.39), Saglimbeni nabbed both the 100 Free (54.05) and 200 Butterfly (2:18.09) and Norton hit the wall first in the 100 (1:06.99) and 200 Breaststroke (2:28.36). Adler added individual wins in the 50 Free (24.66) and 200 Backstroke (2:14.84).

Carrie Koch and Elaine Burns went 1-2 in the 400 IM, while Burns also won the 200 Free (2:07.58) and Koch won the 100 Back (1:08.93). Chelsea Halsor added a victory with a win in the 200 Back (2:25.50)

Greg Amoresano won both the 200 (2:02.54) and 500 Free (5:43.87). Andrew Becker won the 100 Back (1:01.72).

The teams compete next in the Liberty League Championships Dec. 4-5 at the University of Rochester.
