Skidmore splits with Potsdam

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.--  The Skidmore College women's swimming and diving team earned its first win of the season, beating SUNY Potsdam 133-98.   Potsdam won the men's meet, 130-92.

The women are 1-1, while the men fall to 0-2.

Sonia Segal-Smith led the women with three wins, taking the 200 yard freestyle (2:06.55), the 500 free (5:42.54), and the 100 breaststroke (1:15.06).  Carrie Koch won the 1000 free (11:54.74) Heather Friedman won the 100 free (58.90).  Kelsey Carson took first in the 200 IM (2:24.11) and second in the 500 free (5:46.53).  Julie DeGemmis swept the diving events and Alena Chubet won the 100 backstroke (1:05.85).  Elaine Burns was second in the 200 free (2:07.95).

On the men's side, diver Doug Pilawa took first in the 3-meter with an NCAA qualifying score of 286.00.  He was also second in the 1-meter.  J.T. Norton won the 100 breast (1:05.51) and was second in the 50-free (23.92). Tom Saglimbeni grabbed second in the 100 fly (59.90).

Skidmore will host Vassar on Nov. 7.
