Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's soccer team lost 2-1 in OT to Hamilton in Sunday afternoon's Liberty League action at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 2-4 in league and 6-8 overall while the Continentals improve to 5-1 and 9-3-1.
Hamilton junior Jon Sanford scored the game-winner when he took Bennett Weinerman's corner and beat Skidmore keeper
Nick Peterson (West Hartford, Conn.) with a header in the second overtime period to give them the 2-1 victory.
The Thoroughbreds got the scoring started when freshman
Ike Okpoebo (Chelmsford, Mass.) was able to keep the ball in along the goal line and feed junior
Doug Yeates (Richmond, Vt.) right in front of the net to give Skidmore the 1-0 lead in the 27
th minute.
The Continentals fought back and were able to tie it up at 1-1 when Hennie Bosman snuck one past Peterson near post off an Andrew Scott pass at the 61:18 mark.
The Thoroughbreds outshot Hamilton 17-11. Peterson made four saves for Skidmore and Eric Boole stopped five shots for the Continentals.
The Thoroughbreds will travel to Bennington, Vt. to take on Southern Vermont Tuesday at 4 p.m.
