Swimming and diving in close meet with Oneonta

, N.Y. – The Skidmore College swimming and diving teams lost two close meets against SUNY Oneonta Saturday evening at the Sports and Recreation Center. Oneonta posted a 149-94 win in women's action, and a 121-99 win in the men's competition. 
 
For the Thoroughbreds, sophomore Stephen Lento (Cincinnati, Ohio), swimming the 400 individual medley for the  first time, broke the Skidmore College record in the event and placed first with a time of 4:33.36. Lento also won the 1000 freestyle (10:51.40) and finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.54). 
 
Also for the men, freshman diver Doug Pilawa (Chesterland, Ohio) swept the 1 and 3 meter diving events, posting scores of 228.23 in 3 meter and 248.63 in 1 meter. Fellow freshman Sam Leibenhaut (Valley Stream, N.Y.) out-touched Oneonta's Bruce Wemple to win the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.45, and junior John Tyler Norton (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) finished first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.06.
 
On the women's side, senior Kristen Zebrowski (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and sophomore Kelsey Carson (Stamford, Conn.) both collected personal best times as they finished one-two in the 1000 freestyle. Zebrowski came in at 11:19.46, while Carson finished in 11:31.46. 
 
Junior Sonia Segal-Smith (Needham, Mass.) won two events for Skidmore as she placed first in the 100 (57.65) and 200 (2:05.17) freestyle races.
 
Senior Megan Beaulieu-Jones (Vernon, Conn.) came in first in the 400 individual medley as a gutsy finish propelled her to a time of 5:08.95, out-touching Red Dragon Ashley Zotter by .28. Classmate Jen Piepenbrink (Wenham, Mass.) came in at 5:37.41 to win the 500 freestyle and finished in 27.13 to finish a close second in the 50 freestyle.
 
The Skidmore women will compete next at the RPI Women's Invite on Jan. 24.
