RPI women take 66-48 Liberty League win

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The RPI women's basketball team used a 40-point second half to run by Skidmore College, 66-48, in a crucial Liberty League contest Saturday afternoon at the Sports and Recreation Center

The win boosts the Red Hawks to 10-11 overall and 5-6 in conference play.  The Thoroughbreds fall to 13-10 and 6-6 in Liberty League play. 

Rebounding was the difference in the game, as RPI out rebounded Skidmore 40-25, scoring 16 second-chance points off of 15 offensive rebounds.  

After leading by five going into the half, the Red Hawks erupted in the second half to go up by 23, 64-41, with 3:35 left to play on a lay-up by Amanda Brophy (Scituate, Mass.).  The Thoroughbreds would bring it no closer than 17 before the final 66-48 score.

RPI senior Tory Lyons (Feeding Hills, Mass.) finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 20 points and collecting 11 rebounds.  Elizabeth Barker (Suffield, Ct.) chipped in 13 points and four rebounds.

Skidmore was led by junior Laurel Brown (South Hamilton, Mass.), who connected on four of six from three point range to end with 12 points to go along with four assists.  Sophomore Sharlyn Harper added eight points, three assists, and two blocks. 

The Red Hawks shot 46.4 percent in the game, including 16-28 (57.1 percent) from the field in the second half. 

Skidmore is in action next at Hamilton on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.  RPI will be at Vassar on Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.
