Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Hartwick College women's basketball team used a 40-19 first half advantage on the way to an  81-66 non-conference win over Skidmore College Tuesday evening at the Sports and Recreation Center.

The Hawks improve to an even 3-3, while the Thoroughbreds fall to 2-3.

Hartwick shot a red-hot 54.2 percent from the field in the first half, including 6-11 from three-point range (54.5 %). Skidmore, charging for a late rally in the second half, outscored the Hawks 47-41 in the second stanza, but could not overcome the first half deficit.

The Hawks kept the lead in the second-half with the help of free-throw shooting, as they combined for a 21-24 (87.5%) from the line.

Junior forward Dana Leonard (Cooperstown, N.Y.) paced the Thoroughbreds with 14 points and six rebounds off the bench. Senior Laura Michel (Middle Village, N.Y.) ended with eight points and eight rebounds. 

Junior guard Lauren Ploof (Hammond, N.Y.) led four Hawks in double-figures with 16 points and was 7-8 from the free-throw line. 

Skidmore will play next at Lehman College at 3 p.m. on Dec. 6.
