Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Sophomore swimmer
Stephen Lento (Cincinnati, Ohio) broke the Skidmore College record for the 1000 yard freestyle and the Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Utica College, Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center. The women picked up their third win of the season with a 135-81 score, while the men gained their first win of the season with a 148-72 win.
Lento set a new Skidmore College record in the 1000 free with an outstanding time of 10:34.34, while also combining with
John Tyler Norton (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.),
Sam Leibenhaut (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and
Tom Saglimbeni (Hampton Bay, N.Y.) to win the 200 medley relay (1:47.82). Saglimbeni also took home a win in the 100 freestyle, coming in at 53:80.
Freshman diver
Doug Pilawa (Chesterland, Ohio) continued his success in one and three meter diving, setting new school records in each event while qualifying for the NCAA Division III tournament with scores of 277.50 in one meter and 292.28 in three meter.
Leibenhaut recorded two more wins in the 100 fly (58:15) and the 200 freestyle (2:03.96), and Norton took first place in both the 50 freestyle (24.08) and 100 breaststroke (1:05.69). Sophomore
Zach Knecht (Storrs, Conn.) won the 500 freestyle race, coming in with a time of 5:36.33, and won the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:40.17 with teammates
Ben Forman (Arlington, N.Y.),
Sasha Lubell (Short Hills, N.Y.) and
Jarad Weeks (Granfield, Mass.).
For the women, seniors
Jen Piepenbrink (Wenham, Mass.) and
Kristen Zebrowski (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and junior
Sonia Segal-Smith (Needham, Mass.) each posted two wins for the Thoroughbreds. Piepenbrink won the 1000 (11:27.80) and 100 (58.17) freestyle races and Zebrowski came in first in the 50 freestyle (27:18) and the 100 fly (1:04.88).
Segal-Smith won the 200 freestyle in 2:02.05 and out-touched teammate
Allie Little (Kentfield, Calif.) in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.89.
Little combined with
Kelsey Carson (Stamford, Conn.),
Megan Beaulieu-Jones (Vernon, Conn.) and
Elaine Burns (Worcester, Mass.) to win the 200 medley relay in 2:02.45. Little also won the 200 individual medley (2:27.39), while Carson took first in the 500 freestyle.
