Canton, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed their North Country Trip Saturday at St. Lawrence. The women lost a tight 117-114 meet, while the men fell 152-73.
The women won eight of 13 events in the meet. Sonia Segal-Smith won an exciting 50-yard freestyle by .07 over Abbey Lynch of St. Lawrence in a time of 25.74. She also won the 200 breaststroke (2:35.65) and took second in the 100 free (56.25). Jen Piepenbrink won the 1000 free (11:36.95) and 500 free (5:41.56).
Skidmore had several 1-2 finishes in the meet. Piepenbrink and Kelsey Carson (11:40.73) went 1-2 in the 1000 free; Kristen Zebrowski (2:04.97) and Elaine Burns (2:07.33) were 1-2 in the 200 free; Allie Little (2:21.99) and Chelsea Halsor (2:23.34) took first and second in the 200 back; and Piepenbrink and Burns (5:44.72) were 1-2 in the 500 free.
On the men's side, diver Doug Pilawa improved on his school record with 231.03 points in the 1-meter dive, finishing third. The Thoroughbreds had additional strong performances by John Tyler Norton, finishing second in the 50 Free (23.77) and 200 Breast (2:26.28) and Stephen Lento, finishing second in the 1000 Free (11:06.41) and 200 Back (2:12.51).
The women are 1-1, while the men fall to 0-2.
