Saratoga Springs, N.Y. –Skidmore College sophomore Sonia Segal-Smith (Needham, Mass.) broke the Skidmore 1000-yard freestyle record by 18 seconds in a meet against Rensselaer on Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center.
RPI won both meets with the men winning 128-66, and the women winning 136-107.
The Skidmore women are 6-2, while the men fall to 0-8.
Segal-Smith dominated the 1000, finishing in a time of 11:03.45. She also won the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.82 and finished second in the 100 breaststroke.
Suzanna Lourie (Weybridge, Vt.) edged out RPI's Susan Jackson in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.51, while coming in second in the 100 freestyle (57:52). Kristen Zebrowski (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and Jen Piepenbrink (Wenham, Mass.) finished first and second in the 200 freestyle with times of 2:03.54 and 2:03.96.
Kelsey Carson (Stamford, Ct), Jackie Emr (North Potomac, Md.), and Zebrowski finished 2-3-4 in the 500 freestyle.
In men's action, freshman Stephen Lento (Cincinnati, Ohio) won the 50 free in a time of 23:99, and finished second in the 500 free (5:17.54).
Eric Berzins (Greenwich, Ct.) swept the diving competition, with a score of 149.00 in the 3-meter and 154.70 in the 1-meter.
The Thoroughbreds will be back in pool Feb. 2 at Well College.
