Skidmore Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Joe Martin recently announced the hiring of Sean Behan as the program’s newest assistant coach in July of 2019.
Behan comes to Skidmore after nearly four years serving as the lead assistant coach at his alma mater, Utica College. He was responsible for assisting Utica Head Coach Mike Parnell with all facets of the Pioneers’ lacrosse program including scouting, recruiting, practice and game preparation along with day-to-day operations in the office. He also served as the team’s defensive coordinator. While at UC, Behan recruited and developed 15 All-Empire 8 players, and his 2017 squad set new program marks in wins (10) and goals scored (215).
A 2015 undergrad graduate, Behan earned his bachelors’ degree in Criminal Justice – Economic Crime Investigation. He also picked up a masters’ degree in Financial Crime and Compliance Management from Utica in August 2018. A four-year letter winner at UC, he helped the 2013 Pioneers to a then school-record nine victories and the program’s first-ever appearance in the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
In his career at Utica, Sean played in every single game of each season (48 total) while aiding a solid defensive unit. He competed at several positions including a long-stick midfielder, close defenseman, and he was a member of the man-down unit. Behan concluded his career with 25 ground balls, 20 caused turnovers and had three career goals on just four shots.
While in high school at Jamesville-Dewitt (Syracuse, NY), Sean was the recipient of the Junior Coach’s Award (2009) and the Player’s Sportsmanship Award (2010) for varsity football, and the Player’s Sportsmanship Award (2011) for varsity lacrosse. He was also a member of the undefeated 2010 and 2011 NYS Class B State Champion Lacrosse teams for Jamesville Dewitt (44-0 combined), and finished his senior campaign as part of the No. 2 team in the country.
