Shane Talarico

Shane Talarico was named the Skidmore College men's hockey assistant coach in August 2017, and has since been promoted to Associate Head Coach in September 2018.

Talarico serves alongside Skidmore Men's Hockey Head Coach Robert Hutchison '07 in a number of roles, which includes recruiting coordinator, defensive and penalty kill coaching, and skills coaching. He also assists in practice planning and game day strategy, and continues to bolster Skidmore's already strong community involvement in the Saratoga Springs region.
 
Prior to Skidmore, Talarico spent two seasons (2015-16 and 2016-17) as the head coach of the Syracuse Stars Elite of the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) and the assistant coach of the Syracuse Stars Premier teams. He sported an impressive 53-27-8 record over two seasons, with a 9-4 overall record in the postseason. The Stars made the USPHL Final Four in both of Talarico's seasons as the head coach. As an assistant on the Premier teams, Talarico helped with player/goalie development, and helped to break down video for scouting and game planning. His team placed third overall in the USPHL in the 2016-2017 season.
 
Talarico saw 14 players move up to the Premier ranks during his time, including Link Ferch, the league's Goalie of the Year in 2017. In just two seasons, 28 of Talarico's players earned NCAA commitments, including Skidmore goalie Brandon Kasel, defenseman Tyler Hall, and forward Matt Wolf.
 
Talarico also worked in many camps, serving as a CAN/AM On Ice Instructor in Lake Placid, N.Y. over the past seven years, served as an evaluator at the 2016 SAHOF USA Hockey Player Development Camp in Florida, and the Matt Bertani Hockey Camp over two seasons, working with then- assistant coach of the NHL's New York Islanders.
 
In his playing days, Talarico was a four-year goalie at SUNY Potsdam.. Talarico sported a career .897 save percentage as well as a 3.80 goals against average, while his teams made two trips to the SUNYAC Tournament, playing against the nation's elite teams. Talarico earned three SUNYAC Goalie of the Week nods and also earned the Coaches Award in 2015, for his exemplary character and work ethic as a student-athlete. Talarico graduated in May of 2015 with a bachelor's degree in History and a master's degree in Education.
 
Talarico, a Greensburg, Pa. native, played two seasons in the Eastern Junior Hockey League with the Bridgewater Bandits and the Philadelphia Revolution, earning the title of assistant captain as a goalie. He now resides in Saratoga Springs.
