Bergin joined the Skidmore staff as a volunteer assistant in 2017-18, moving to assistant in 2018 and associate head coach in 2020. His duties include: recruiting coordinator, defensive and penalty kill coach, skills coach practice planning, game day strategy, and video coordinator.

Bergin had a successful hockey career. He played for the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL from 2015-2018. In three seasons, the captain played in 146 games (regular season and playoffs) on the defensive end, tallying 23 points on five goals and 18 assists as the team won back-to-back division titles in 2017 and 2018. He also played for the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL as well as Sodertalje SK of the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan.
Drafted in the seventh round by the NHL’s Dallas Stars in 2008, Bergin was a four-year star at Division-I RPI (2008-2012). Named a team captain during his time with the Engineers, Bergin led RPI to an NCAA Tournament bid in 2011. He was a four-year ECAC All-Academic Team member, and in 2012 he was named RPI’s Defensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player. He played in 107 career contests, tallying 40 points on nine goals and 31 assists, and would earn a B.S. degree in Business and Management from RPI in 2012.
Bergin spent his junior career with the Smiths Falls Bears of the CJHL and the Perth Blue Wings of the EOJHL. The Ottawa, Ont. native was named the CJHL and EOJHL’s Rookie of the Year in 2006 and 2005, respectively, and was a Second Team All-CJHL selection in 2008.
Along with the aforementioned role on the Skidmore staff as a volunteer last season, Bergin also served as an instructor at the P2 Hockey Camp in Clifton Park for the last two years, and at the Bell SensPlex Hockey Camp in Kanata, Ont. from 2004-2007.
