SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Playing in front of a packed Stable Game crowd, the Skidmore College men's soccer team picked up its first conference win in a 3-2 shootout against Union at Wachenheim Field on Tuesday evening.
The Thoroughbreds (3-4-2, 1-1 Liberty League) got a first-half brace from senior
Colin Goodhines, who became the sixth Thoroughbred since 1998 to reach 20 career goals, and a second-half winner from fellow senior
Connor Mansfield to edge the Garnet Chargers (6-4-1, 1-1 Liberty League).

Rowan McLear made five saves to earn his fifth career win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Union struck first in the 12th minute when Joseph Carofano connected with Eamonn Kelley to put the Garnet Chargers ahead 1-0.
- In the 20th minute, Goodhines received a well-placed ball over the top from freshman Nathan Gritzmacher before making a move and shooting around a pair of defenders to even the score.
- Minutes later, freshman Jacob Towvim shook his defender near the right corner and sent a cross to Goodhines, who headed it in to give Skidmore a 2-1 lead in the 26th minute.
- The Garnet Chargers equalized in the 64th minute when Kofi Sarfoh scored off the rebound of an initially blocked shot from Matt Guiliano, who was credited with the assist.
- Mansfield put the Thoroughbreds ahead for good in the 71st minute. Following a give-and-go between sophomore Quinn McInerney and freshman Luke Dougherty, the first year delivered a pinpoint cross into the box for the senior, who shot past the diving Union keeper for the winner.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Goodhines recorded his second brace of the season, bringing his career total to 21 goals and tying him for fifth among Skidmore players since 1998.
- Mansfield scored his first goal of the season and eighth of his career.
- Towvim recorded his first career assist.
- L. Dougherty recorded his second career assist.
- McInerney picked up his second assist of the season and third of his career.
