Goodhines, Thoroughbreds rally to force 1-1 draw against Ithaca on Senior Day

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College men's soccer team came from behind to earn a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Ithaca, capping off Senior Day at Wachenheim Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (3-4-3, 1-1-1 Liberty League) fell behind in the 40th minute behind a brilliant attacking sequence in transition from the Bombers (7-1-4, 0-0-2 Liberty League). Skidmore responded with a commanding second half that saw a 14-5 advantage on shots and 5-2 edge in corners, and was capped off by senior Colin Goodhines netting the equalizer in the 69th minute on a penalty kick following a hand ball inside the box.

The goal made Goodhines just the seventh player in program history to eclipse 50 career points since 1998, as well as tying Colin Minte for fourth-most career goals with 22.

Before the match, Skidmore honored the three members of its 2026 senior class: Nate Bartoli, Edo Ferrari, and Goodhines, and all three seniors received starts in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ferrari recorded Skidmore's first shot on goal in the 19th minute that was stopped by Ithaca's goalie.
  • Ithaca took the lead in the 40th minute when Ethan Bellone lofted a pass over the Skidmore backline to Noah Partenza, who evaded junior goalkeeper Rowan McLear and scored.
  • Freshman Nathan Gritzmacher placed a shot on goal in the 52nd minute that was turned away.
  • McLear turned away Ithaca chances at an insurance goal in the 54th and 60th minutes to keep the deficit at one.
  • In the 69th minute, sophomore Quinn McInerney struck the ball into the right post before it deflected back into the box and hit an Ithaca defender's arm, giving Skidmore the penalty kick.
  • Goodhines converted the ensuing penalty, sending his shot into the bottom right corner to tie the match at 1-1.
  • McLear capped a stellar second half by collecting his final save in the 81st minute to keep the match level.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
  • Goodhines scored his seventh goal of the season, which currently slots him second in the entire conference.
  • Ferrari finished with two shots, one shot on goal in his first career start.
  • Bartoli logged 20 minutes in his 12th career start.
