MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Skidmore College women's volleyball team fell to Middlebury in straight sets Tuesday night, 25-20, 25-7, 25-14, at Pepin Gymnasium. Middlebury hit .440 for the match with 41 kills against just four attack errors to improve to 10-2, while the Thoroughbreds moved to 7-4.
- Chloe Heitman led Skidmore with nine kills and added five digs and a service ace. Natalie Pedersen and Cece Kilroy each finished with seven kills, with Kilroy also collecting a team-high eight digs.
- Catriona Hoelperl handed out 20 assists to go along with five digs. Marlowe McIntyre finished with six digs.
- Middlebury finished with a 41-29 advantage in kills and seven total blocks while holding Skidmore to a .063 hitting percentage.
- Molly Harrison powered Middlebury with a match-high 14 kills without an error on 22 swings for a .636 hitting percentage. Natalie Stanford added 11 kills on .429 hitting with four block assists, while Annabella Rando finished with 11 digs and a match-high three service aces.
- Skidmore controlled the early stages of the opening set. The Thoroughbreds rattled off four straight points to turn a 3-3 tie into a 7-3 advantage and later led 16-13. Skidmore was still in front 18-17 before Middlebury closed the set on an 8-2 run to take it, 25-20.
- Middlebury seized control early in the second. After Skidmore cut the deficit to 4-2, Middlebury scored the next 10 points to open a 14-2 lead. The hosts hit .579 in the frame with 12 kills and one error on 19 attacks on the way to a 25-7 win.
- Middlebury carried the momentum into the third, building leads of 9-4 and 17-7. Skidmore answered with three consecutive points to pull within seven, but Middlebury closed out the 25-14 set to complete the sweep.
UP NEXT: Skidmore travels to Potsdam, N.Y., Saturday, Sept. 26 for a pair of matches. The Thoroughbreds will face Clarkson at 2 p.m. to open Liberty League play before taking on Potsdam at 4 p.m.
