No. 24 Skidmore off to 4-0 Liberty League start with 7-0 win over Union

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team remained unbeaten in league play with a convincing 7-0 win over visiting Union College on Wednesday evening in a match that spanned nearly five hours at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center.
  • Skidmore (10-3, 4-0 Liberty League), ranked 24th nationally, got pushed to the brink in doubles before rolling to wins in each of the six singles matches for the shutout.
  • After splits of second and third doubles, Yuval Goodman and Harrison Gradin outlasted the Sosa/A. Gupta team in an extended 9-7 tiebreak to earn the doubles point for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Nika Mori and Fletcher King took down Saxe/V. Gupta, 6-2, to open the scoring.
  • Goodman got his second win of the night at first singles (6-4, 6-2) over Union's Solen Bellemare to double the lead.
  • Then, Radin Sadeghi worked a straight-set decision (7-5, 6-4) over Simon Philip in the No. 5 spot to put Skidmore one away from the clinch.
  • Ege Topbas won the clinching singles match in three sets over Daniel Saxe in the No. 4 slot (5-7, 6-1, 6-2).
  • Then, as the second wave of singles began, Kyle Lundberg extended it to a 5-0 Skidmore lead with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Union's No. 2 Jesus Sosa.
  • Mori ended it by coming from behind and then dominating the third-set tiebreaker to win over Vivaan Gupta (5-7, 7-5, 10-2).
  • The Thoroughbreds have won eight in a row.
