CANTON, NY – The Skidmore College women's tennis team fell 6-1 on the road at St. Lawrence on Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (4-12, 4-2 Liberty League) clinched victories at first doubles and first singles, but ultimately lost the overall doubles point as the Saints (12-4, 5-2 Liberty League) won at second and third doubles, in addition to five singles match wins.
DOUBLES MATCHES
- At first doubles, the first-year duo of Ginevra Muratori/Amelie Gonzalez defeated St. Lawrence's Angelica Aksdal-Jansen/Molly Jespersen in a clean 6-0 decision.
- However, the Thoroughbreds won just one combined game across second and third doubles as the Saints pulled away with the doubles point.
SINGLES MATCHES
- At first singles, first year Ginevra Muratori defeated the Saints' Angelica Aksdal-Jansen in a competitive straight sets win. The first year took set one 7-5, before deciding the second set in tiebreaks 7-6 (7-3).
- At second singles, freshman Amelie Gonzalez lost in a competitive straight sets result to St. Lawrence's Molly Jespersen 6-3, 6-4.
- At third singles, freshman Ellie Lake put up a similar fight, battling through two sets before falling to the Saints' Elisa Iuri, 6-4, 6-3.
- At fourth singles, sophomore Maggie English fell in straight sets to St. Lawrence's Yvette Kerera, 6-3, 6-0.
- At fifth singles, freshman Mia Rosenberg took three games but lost to St. Lawrence's Ariane Kerera in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
- At sixth singles, junior Ruth Wilson fell to the Saints' Ellie Fritz, 6-1, 6-0.
