SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College softball team slugged eight extra-base hits, including four and a home run from
Sam Waters, but dropped a doubleheader to Westfield State 10-6 and 15-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
- Waters finished 5-for-7 for the day with two doubles, a triple, and her second homer of the year.Â
Westfield St. 10, Skidmore 6
- It was a 4-3 game until the sixth when the Owls (14-0) plated six runs to extend their lead to seven.
- Skidmore (6-6) scored first when Waters led off with an opposite-field triple and then scored on an overthrow of third.
- The visitors then hit the first of their four homers on the day to take a 2-1 lead in the second and single runs in the fourth in fifth to lead 4-2.
- Skidmore scored one in the fourth on a Natalie Mayne RBI double and then one more in the fifth on a first-and-third play to make it a one-run game again.
- Waters doubled in two in the sixth and then scored on an Elle Harrison two-bagger to complete the scoring.
- Delaney Swain was 1-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored.
- Lulu Mickle was 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs.
- Mayne tossed two innings of shutout relief.

Westfield St. 15, Skidmore 2 (5 inn.)
- Sarah Hough hit a grand slam to highlight Westfield State's nine-run top of the third inning in which it sent 14 batters to the plate.
- Mia Alfonso got the scoring started with a two-run blast in the top of the first, and Waters countered with a solo shot to lead off the bottom half.
- Then, Allyssa Slack kept the long game going when she hit her second homer of the day to lead off the second for the Owls.
- Â After the big third, the visitors added three more in the top of the fifth, and Waters completed her exceptional day at the plate with a run-scoring double in the home half of the fifth.
- Waters had three out of Skidmore's five hits.
