SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The No. 40 Skidmore College women's tennis team returned to winning ways with a 5-2 victory over William Smith at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (2-6, 2-0 Liberty League) secured the doubles point after winning two of the three doubles matches, before winning straight sets matches at first to fourth singles to take down the Herons (3-4, 0-1 Liberty League).
DOUBLES MATCHES
- In first doubles, the Skidmore first year pairing of Ginevra Muratori/Amelie Gonzalez set the tone early with a dominant 6-1 victory over William Smith's Haley Levine/Grace Magna.
- In second doubles, the Thoroughbreds duo of Ellie Lake/Maggie English battled but ultimately fell to William Smith's Mae Kellersman/Bethany Walker, 6-3.
- In third doubles, the Skidmore duo of Ruth Wilson/Mia Rosenberg edged out a tightly contested match, holding off the Herons' Marin Montagne/Mia Jacobs for a 7-5 win.
SINGLES MATCHES
- In first singles, freshman Ginevra Muratori conceded just two games in a commanding straight sets win over William Smith's Mae Kellersman 6-2, 6-0.
- In second singles, first year Amelie Gonzalez cruised to a straight sets win over William Smith's Haley Levine in a 6-2, 6-2 decision.
- In third singles, freshman Ellie Lake defeated the Herons' Grace Magna in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
- In fourth singles, sophomore Maggie English held off the Herons' Bethany Walker in a competitive first set, before winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.
- In fifth singles, freshman Mia Rosenberg took four games but fell in straight sets to the Herons' Mia Jacobs 6-1, 6-3
- In sixth singles, Junior Ruth Wilson battled in a closely-contested opening set before dropping a 7-5, 6-1 decision to William Smith's Kaitlyn Hardy.
