Thoroughbreds claim series over Bard with 12-3 win in game one of doubleheader

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team secured the series win over Bard on Saturday with a 12-3 game on victory on the road. Bard salvaged the third game of the series, 7-6, despite Skidmore's late comeback push. The Thoroughbreds won 2-of-3 over the Raptors for the weekend.

Game 1 – Skidmore 12, Bard 3
  • Skidmore scored a pair in four different innings before a four-spot in the ninth made it a 10-run contest.
  • The Thoroughbreds ran all over the Raptors with nine stolen bases including pair of steals of home. Nate Vandersea had three, while Eddie Galvao had two. Four other players registered steals.
  • Quinn McDonald had three hits in six trips with two RBI.
  • Matthew O'Neill drove in a game high three runs.
  • Luke Warzynski had 2-for-3 with a stolen base, a triple, and two runs.
  • Jack Collins allowed one run on five hits over six innings. He walked just one and struck out five.
  • Grayden Harris tossed the final three innings for the save.
  • Elias Grosfoguel went 2-for-4 with a triple for the hosts.
  • Vandersea and Warzynski pulled off a double steal in the sixth to second and home, respectively, to make it 9-1.
  • Then, Vandersea teamed up with Galvao for another first-and-third steal in the ninth.
  • The Thoroughbreds took advantage of 14 walks and four hit batters from Bard pitching. Skidmore had nine hits.

Game 2 – Bard 7, Skidmore 6
  • Bard got to Skidmore starter Chase Siegel before he settled in. The Raptors plated a run in the first and three in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
  • Siegel retired the next nine in a row, and Skidmore scored four in the third, to tie it up.
  • A walk and throwing error put runners on the corners to start Skidmore's third, and O'Neil brought in the first on a fielder's choice and two batters later scored on a Mac Cady single through the left side. Two more then scored on a dropped fly ball.
  • Bar hurler Graham Benway set down the next 10 Thoroughbreds in a row, matching Siegel pitch for pitch, to bring the game into the seventh.
  • Skidmore took the lead on a Vandersea double to score lead-off hitter Holden Caney, who singled and went to second on an Adam Copeland bunt.
  • The Thoroughbreds stranded what would have been an important insurance run at second, and the Raptors scored the tying and go-ahead runs after a pair of Skidmore errors in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Sam Dalsimer limited the damage to one in the bottom of the eighth after Bard loaded the bases with nobody out. He got out of it by rolling a double play ground ball.
  • O'Neill singled with one out in the ninth and moved to second on a two-out walk to Collins. Cady then scored Skidmore's sixth run on a single to center. Then, new Bard pitcher Toma Maxwell got a pop out to end it.
