SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – A strong closing effort in the fourth quarter propelled the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team to a hard-fought 13-9 victory over Hartford at Wachenheim Field on Saturday afternoon.
Facing a tie through three quarters, the Thoroughbreds (6-0) outscored the Hawks (2-3) by a 5-1 margin in the final period to pull away in the closing minutes. Skidmore finished with advantages in shots (40-24), ground balls (40-28), and faceoffs (16-10), while forcing 20 turnovers and limiting Hartford to just 13-of-23 on clears, but strong goaltending from the Hawks kept the game tight with 14 saves.

Marc Gadbois recorded three saves to earn his eighth career victory. On faceoffs, senior
Jason Fastiggi went 13-of-19 with a team-high 10 ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Ollie Rice scored Skidmore's first goal off an assist from senior David Koffler with 6:43 remaining in the first quarter, halting Hartford's early momentum after the Hawks opened the game with a 2-0 lead.
- Senior Caleb Lawson traded goals with Hartford late in the first quarter, but the Hawks pushed their lead to 5-2 at the 9:16 mark of the second.
- Skidmore answered by closing the half with four consecutive goals to take a 6-5 lead into intermission, with Lawson, twice from freshman Joseph Killcommons and sophomore Michael Aiello all finding the back of the net.
- The run continued into the third quarter as Killcommons completed his hat trick to extend the Skidmore lead up to 7-5 with 12:28 remaining.
- Hartford responded with a goal to cut the deficit to one before freshman Leo Passalaqua answered with a solo strike, but the Hawks scored twice late in the quarter to tie the game at 8-8 entering the fourth.
- In the final period, Aiello scored to put Skidmore back in front before Hartford tied the game once again.
- Lawson then converted on a man-up opportunity to give Skidmore the lead for good, and the Thoroughbreds pulled away with additional goals from Koffler, sophomore Jake Weiner, and Koffler again.

- Lawson scored three goals on eight shots-on-goal.
- Killcommons tallied three goals with two groundballs.
- Koffler finished with two goals, two assists, five groundballs with two caused turnovers.
- Aiello tallied two goals, one assist and two caused turnovers.
