SAN ANTONIO, TX – The No. 40 Skidmore College women's tennis team fell 6-1 to No. 35 Haverford on Wednesday morning.
The Thoroughbreds (1-5) took the doubles point after winning two matches at first and third doubles, but fell on the wrong end of three third-set tiebreaks as the Fords (2-1) swept singles play.
DOUBLES MATCHES
- In first doubles, the Skidmore first year duo of Ginevra Muratori/Amelie Gonzalez broke free from a 4-4 tie with Haverford's Jolie Zink/Adelaide Kreutel after winning the final two games to secure a 6-4 victory.
- In third doubles, the Thoroughbreds pairing of Maeve O'Brien-McKevitt/Maggie English similarly overcame a 4-4 tie to earn a 6-4 match victory over the Fords' Erika Phanord/Sriya Krishnan.
SINGLES MATCHES
- In first singles, freshman Ginevra Muratori fought back after dropping the opening set, forcing a decisive third-set tiebreak before narrowly falling to Haverford's Jolie Zink, 2-6, 6-0, 10-7.
- In second singles, first year Amelie Gonzalez rallied after a tight first set to push the match to a dramatic third-set tiebreak, but ultimately came up just short against Haverford's Aarti Prochnow, 7-5, 3-6, 10-8.
- In third singles, sophomore Maggie English battled through three sets and forced another deciding tiebreak, but Haverford's Adelaide Kreutel edged the match, 6-1, 2-6, 10-7.
- In fourth singles, freshman Mia Rosenberg competed but fell in straight sets to Haverford's Natalia Chapa, 6-1, 6-2.
- In fifth singles, junior Ruth Wilson took two games but dropped a straight-set decision to the Fords' Sophie Capone, 6-2, 6-0.
- In sixth singles, sophomore Maeve O'Brien-McKevitt battled in set two but fell to Haverford's Abhishree Menon, 6-1, 6-4.
