AMHERST, MA – The No. 29 Skidmore College women's tennis team fell 7-0 to No. 14 Amherst to close out the weekend road trip on Sunday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds drop to 1-3 on the season, while the Mammoths improve to 1-0.
DOUBLES MATCHES
- In first doubles, the Skidmore first year duo of Ginevra Muratori/Amelie Gonzalez took a game before falling to Amherst's Jules Viberg/Huang in a 6-1 decision.
- Second and third doubles saw a pair of 6-0 sweeps from the Mammoths.
SINGLES MATCHES
- In first singles, freshman Ginevra Muratori posted a 6-3, 6-2 straight sets defeat to Amherst's Sophie Dipo.
- At No. 2 singles, first-year Amelie Gonzalez dropped a hard-fought three-set match to Amherst's Tina She. After falling 6-0 in the opening set, Gonzalez responded with a 7-5 victory in the second to force a third-set tiebreak, where she narrowly fell, 10-7.
- In third singles, sophomore Maggie English battled to a 6-3 first set los to Amherst's Cody Huang, before losing 6-1 in set two to fall in straight sets.
- In fourth singles, junior Ruth Wilson took a pair of games before falling 6-1, 6-1 to Amherst's Greta Stechschulte.
- In fifth singles, sophomore Maeve O'Brien-McKevitt won three games but fell in a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Amherst's Sameera Talwar.
- Skidmore forfeited at No. 6 singles due to not having an available player.
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds will next take the court in San Antonio, TX at Trinity College on March 10 against Swarthmore. The match kicks off a three-game Spring Break trip.
