No. 29 Thoroughbreds fall 6-1 to No. 8 MIT

Freshman Ginevra Muratori won in No. 1 Singles 6-4, 6-3.
CAMBRIDGE, MA – The No. 29 Skidmore College women's tennis team battled but fell short, 6-1, in a road matchup at No. 8 MIT on Saturday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds (1-2) earned victories at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, but the Engineers (2-1) secured the remaining matches to pull away.

DOUBLES MATCHES
  • At No. 1 doubles, the Skidmore duo of Ginevra Muratori/Amelie Gonzalez rallied for a 7-5 victory over MIT's Kolli/Pados. Trailing 5-2, the pair won three consecutive games to even the score at 5-5 before capturing the final two games to complete the comeback.
  • At No. 2 doubles, MIT's Chen/Zeng secured a 6-2 win over Skidmore's Ruth Wilson/Mia Rosenberg.
  • At No. 3 doubles, the Skidmore pairing of Maggie English/Maeve O'Brien-McKevitt fell 6-1 to MIT's Deshpande/Driscoll.
SINGLES MATCHES
  • At No. 1 singles, freshman Ginevra Muratori earned a straight-sets victory, 6-4, 6-3, over MIT's Saina Deshpande.
  • At No. 2 singles, first-year Amelie Gonzalez dropped the opening set 6-1 before competing in a tight 6-4 second set against Sophia Yang of the Engineers.
  • At No. 3 singles, sophomore Maggie English picked up a pair of games, but fell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, to MIT's Rayna Li.
  • At No. 4 singles, junior Ruth Wilson was defeated 6-0, 6-1 by MIT's Alicen Liu.
  • At No. 5 singles, sophomore Maeve O'Brien-McKevitt won two games in the first set before falling 6-2, 6-0 to MIT's Anselma Patrie.
  • Skidmore forfeited at No. 6 singles due to not having an available player.
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds take on Amherst tomorrow morning in a 11 AM road matchup.
