Thoroughbreds control second half for 66-51 Big Green Scream win over St. Lawrence; Krop breaks season block record

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Skidmore College women's basketball team posted a 66-51 Liberty League victory over St. Lawrence University on Saturday afternoon in celebration of Skidmore's Big Green Scream event and the program's Senior Day. Junior Ruby Krop set the program's single-season block record with her 66th stuff in the first half.
  • Skidmore (11-12, 9-7 Liberty League) took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Saints 24-11 and building a lead it would not relinquish.
  • The victory clinched Skidmore's playoff spot. The Thoroughbreds can finish as high as a tie for third.
  • Krop moved past Shanley Irving's 23-year-old block record of 65. The junior leads the Liberty League by a whopping 37. She entered the day fifth in Division III in total blocks and blocks per game (2.95).
  • Sophia Martinez paced the Thoroughbreds offensively with 18 points on 8-for-18 shooting to go along with five rebounds and a steal.
  • Claudia Schneider added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Madison Meyer chipped in 11 points and a game high four steals.
  • Krop contributed 10 points off the bench and recorded three blocks.
  • Skidmore shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the floor and 80 percent (12-of-15) from the free-throw line, while limiting St. Lawrence to 28.1 percent (16-of-57) shooting overall.
  • The Thoroughbreds also held a significant edge in points in the paint (40-18) and capitalized on turnovers to fuel their offense. Skidmore had a 29-12 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
  • For St. Lawrence (15-8, 10-6 Liberty League), Elizabeth Flynn led all scorers with 15 points and collected 12 rebounds for a double-double. Jackie Malley added nine points for the Saints.
  • Skidmore's lead was one, 26-25, at halftime before the Thoroughbreds shot 60 percent (9-of-15) from the field in the third quarter while turning eight SLU turnovers into 13 points to stretch the lead to 14.
  • Skidmore led by as many as 22 points (58-36) in the fourth quarter before the visitors closed on a 10-4 run.
  • The Big Green Scream drew Skidmore's largest crowd of the year of over 800.
  • Before the game, the program honored its two seniors Madison Meyer and Melissa Severino. The pair are the only two remaining players from the 2023 Liberty League championship team.
UP NEXT
Skidmore will complete the regular season next week on the road at Ithaca and RIT. The Liberty League First Round is slated for Tuesday, Feb. 24.
