MEDFORD, Mass. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team used a dominant fourth quarter to rally past host Tufts University, 67-63, on Saturday afternoon. The Thoroughbreds outscored the Jumbos 23-12 over the final 10 minutes and placed five players in double figures.
- Sara Hastie led Skidmore with 16 points off the bench, knocking down 3 of 4 attempts from beyond the arc.
- Sophia Martinez added 14 points and two assists.
- Madison Meyer and Claudia Schneider each scored 11 points. Meyer added three rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Schneider finished with four rebounds and four assists.
- Jenny Shine chipped in 10 points off the bench as Skidmore (2-6) held a 31-18 advantage in bench scoring.
- Tessa Lozner led Tufts (7-5) with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Abby Congdon scored 14.
- Both teams opened the game shooting 5-for-13 from the field in the first quarter, with a pair of 3-pointers giving Tufts a three-point edge.
- The Jumbos scored 15 points in the second quarter, but Skidmore's 6-for-12 shooting in the period trimmed the deficit to four at halftime.
- Skidmore scored the first two baskets of the second half and pulled within one twice before Tufts extended its lead to 10 with 17 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
- Martinez connected on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to cut the margin to seven heading into the fourth.
- Annie Ryan opened the final period with a 3-pointer for Tufts, but Skidmore responded with 12 unanswered points over the next five minutes to take a 56-54 lead.
- Meyer gave Skidmore the lead for good with a layup at the 2:17 mark.
- After a Tufts basket pulled the hosts within one, Hastie drilled a clutch 3-pointer with 1:17 remaining to push the lead to four. Ryan answered with a 3-pointer 10 seconds later, but Tufts missed its final three shots of the game.
- Ruby Krop had a key late block to help snuff out a last-ditch Jumbo comeback try.
