Skidmore offense erupts in 7-0 rout of Potsdam

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Sophomore Brandon Spaulding led the way with two goals and an assist as six different players scored for the Skidmore College men's hockey team in a comfortable 7-0 win over visiting SUNY Potsdam on Friday evening.
  • Skidmore (7-6-2, 4-3-1 SUNYAC) had two goals in the first and one in the second before exploding for a four-spot in period three for the lopsided final.
  • The seven-goal margin is Skidmore's largest since an 11-1 win over Canton on Nov. 11, 2023.
  • Spaulding scored Skidmore's second and sixth goals while assisting on the seventh.
  • Nick Troutwine and Ryan Waltman both assisted three times.
  • Ryan Stratton, Cooper Rice, Bryce Terry, Matthew Franzoi, and Oscar Worob each lit the lamp for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Jacob Zwirecki, Bryson Russell, Tyler Chenevert, and Daniel Urban all had assists.
  • Tommy Aitken turned aside all 16 shots he saw before giving way to Alex Bonrouhi for the final 12 minutes for a combined shutout. Bonrouhi made two saves in his first action of the year.
  • Stratton struck early; giving the Thoroughbreds a 1-0 lead at the 3:58 mark of the opening period.
  • Spaulding send the hosts into the first intermission up a pair with a tally at 14:11.
  • In the second, Rice scored the period's only goal with 2:36 remaining.
  • Then, two goals in seven seconds by Terry and Franzoi kickstarted the four-goal explosion. Spauling added his second at 11:24 before Worob completed the scoring with 6:07 remaining.
  • The Thoroughbreds finished with a 38-18 advantage in shots on goal. Skidmore went 1-for-4 on the power play, while the Bears were 0-for-2.
  • Lenny Pernos (20 saves) and Luciano Chinappi (11 saves) split duty for Potsdam (7-8, 4-4) in goal.
  • The game was the first between the new conference opponents since back-to-back ties in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons.

The Thoroughbreds will look to make it three in a row as it concludes the weekend at home on Saturday at 4 p.m. against Canton.
