Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Skidmore downed by Wildcats

UTICA, NY – The Skidmore College men's soccer team fell on the road, 1-0, to SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Saturday afternoon.

In a statistically lopsided performance that saw the Thoroughbreds (1-1-1) finish with a massive 20-to-4 shots advantage while generating all nine corners in the game, it was the Wildcats (2-2) that scored the lone goal of the match in the 63rd minute to pair with a nine-save performance from goalie Tyler Barth, who kept a relentless Skidmore offense off the board.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Skidmore attacked from the opening touch, with one shot on net from junior Colin Goodhines and two on target shots from freshman Quinn McInerney in the opening ten minutes to immediately pressure the SUNY Poly defense.
  • The Wildcats answered with a pair of shots on goal in the 15th and 17th minutes, both saved by senior goalie Will Devall.
  • Entering halftime, the Thoroughbreds outshot the Wildcats by an 8-to-3 margin alongside generating all four corners in the half, however five saves from Barth kept Skidmore off the scoring column.
  • Coming out of intermission, it was the same script as the Skidmore offense strung together the first five shots with three corners in the opening minutes.
  • However, it was SUNY Poly that scored the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute after Jael Casimir turned a seemingly standard throw-in attempt into an opportunistic solo attack in transition that saw the Wildcat outpace the Skidmore backline before launching a shot just past the reach of a diving Devall.
  • The Thoroughbreds concluded the second half by outshooting SUNY Poly by a staggering 12-to-1 margin alongside generating five corners.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
  • Freshman Jacob Humienny led the offense with eight shots, four of which were on goal.
  • Goodhines finished with three shots on the day.
