SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Skidmore drew first blood, but visiting Hamilton shrugged off the upset challenge for a 3-1 field hockey win on Tuesday afternoon.
- Hamilton, ranked 10th nationally, scored twice before the first half was over and added another insurance mark in the third quarter for the 3-1 final.
- Mia Angwin scored the goal for Skidmore (5-5), cashing in on plenty of early offensive momentum, just before the four-minute mark.
- Skidmore held the early possession and had each of the first three shots and five out of the first six of the afternoon. Angwin fired home a rebound after an initial Colby Paul shot was knocked down and bounced around in front. Â
- The Thoroughbreds continued to push, and only a Morgan Clarke defensive save for Hamilton (7-2) kept the score 1-0.
- Shortly after a Continental corner at the 5:34 mark of the second period, Isabell Nahon tied the game at one on a shot through traffic.
- Alden Duserick gave the visitors the lead with 22 seconds left in the half on a penalty stroke.
- Becky Felker completed the scoring when she tipped in Clarke's shot with 5:27 remaining in the third period.
- Hamilton outshot Skidmore 19-4 after the first quarter and 22-10 overall.
- Nicole Sylvestri made eight saves in the effort for Skidmore.
- Abby Griffin turned aside one shot in the first half for Hamilton, while Kelly Janssen had three saves in the second half.
- Hamilton finished with a 9-6 edge in penalty corners.
