Thoroughbreds blank St. Lawrence, 4-0, in Liberty League opener

CANTON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College field hockey team opened Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon with a dominant win, 4-0, on the road at St. Lawrence.
  • Skidmore (5-4, 1-0 Liberty League) scored twice in the first quarter and then once more in each the second and third for the four-goal margin.
  • Four players scored for the Thoroughbreds and three others had assists.
  • Nicole Sylvestri (six saves) and Allison Morgan (1 save) combined in the shutout.
  • Erin Ohlenbusch opened the scoring at the 4:02 mark on a feed from Mia Angwin.
  • With 26 seconds remaining in the opening period, Molly Van Vranken doubled the lead. Anna D'Amore assisted.
  • Ella Costa made it 3-0 with 1:35 remaining in the first half.
  • Sylvestri needed two out of her six saves in the final minute of the half to keep the hosts off the board.
  • Early in the third quarter, Brooke Golden had her team-leading fourth defensive save of the year to preserve Skidmore's three-goal cushion.
  • Two minutes later, Colby Paul notched her fourth goal of the year to complete the scoring. Abby Ezickson had the assist.
  • Skidmore finished with a 16-12 edge in shots with a 13-8 margin in shots on goal.
  • The Thoroughbreds also posted a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners.
  • Elizabeth Walsh made seven saves for the St. Lawrence (3-4, 0-1 Liberty League).     
 
NEXT UP
Skidmore will step away from league play when it hosts Hamilton on Tuesday at 4 p.m. before conference contests against Rochester and William Smith next weekend.
