WORCESTER, MA – An 83
rd minute score from sophomore
Dylan Moore led the Skidmore College men's soccer team to another clutch 2-1 victory, this time over Worcester Polytechnic Institute on the road Tuesday evening.
The Thoroughbreds (3-1-2) gained the lead early on when freshman
Jacob Humienny found the back of the net in the 18
th, before the Engineers (2-2-2) found the equalizer midway into the second half to seemingly force the tie. However, Moore's late goal proved to be the difference to cap off a match that saw Skidmore edge out WPI by a 15-to-11 shots margin.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Humienny quickly put Skidmore ahead 1-0 in the 18th minute off a terrific give and go sequence with Moore that resulted in a hooking shot perfectly placed into the upper left corner of net. Sophomore Jed Dougherty set up the sequence with the initial outlet pass to Moore.
- Senior goalie Will Devall tacked on defensively with two saves as the Thoroughbreds carried the lead into halftime.
- WPI tied the game in the 66th minute after Fabio Bastida-Andreu scored off the assist from Mike Montabana.
- For the second straight match, junior Collin Goodhines again created a key scoring opportunity late, this time in the 83rd, after driving downfield and connecting with Moore at the top of the box, who dribbled around an Engineer defender for a left-footed shot through the back of the net.
- Devall made a key stop on an Engineer header in the 71st minute, before ending the game with a 90th minute save on another WPI header to seal the Skidmore victory.
