SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Junior
Colby Paul scored two goals, one in each the second and third quarters, supplemented by goals from
Brooke Golden and
Mia Angwin, as the Skidmore College field hockey team defeated visiting Hartwick College, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Wagner Park.
- Skidmore (3-2) outshot the Hawks (0-4) 20-5 with a 15-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Thoroughbreds had 11 corners opposed to six for the visitors.
- Golden opened the scoring at the 2:54 mark on a blast from the top of the circle off a Skidmore corner. Erin Ohlenbusch and Ella Costa, the insertor, assisted.
- It was the first of two assists for Costa.
- Angwin doubled the lead with 1:34 left in the opening quarter, also off a penalty corner sequence. Abby Ezickson assisted. Angwin finished with three points thanks to an assist on Skidmore's last goal.
- Paul converted a penalty stroke with 5:29 left in the second quarter to send the Thoroughbreds into the break with a 3-0 cushion.
- She then completed the scoring for Skidmore in the 39th minute on a corner. Angwin and Costa had the assists.
- Hope Angioletti scored on a corner with 26 second remaining in the game to break up the shutout.
- Winning goalie Nicole Sylvestri made one save over three quarters to claim her first win of the year for the Thoroughbreds.
- Allison Morgan made a save on a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter in relief.
- Hartwick goalie Ava Reynolds had 11 saves.
