SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The offense fired on all cylinders as the Skidmore College women's soccer team overcame an early deficit to defeat Plattsburgh State, 3-1, at Wachenheim Field on Wednesday afternoon.

th minute goal from the Cardinals (2-3), before converting on a hat trick of goals the rest of the game to comfortably secure the home victory. Led by a pair of goals from junior
Abby Lewis, and an additional score from fellow junior
Alexandra Verna, the home team rounded out the match with a commanding 19-to-9 advantage in shots and a 7-to-2 edge in corners.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals struck first in the 17th minute after Sydney Myers headed in a perfectly placed free kick from Alexis Patrick to go up 1-0.
- Skidmore responded minutes later, in the 24th, in a quick hitting sequence that saw freshman Bryn Ryan drive downfield to find junior Ellianna Caporusso, who immediately crossed the ball to an uncontested Lewis in the box for the equalizing header.
- Coming out of halftime, the Thoroughbreds made a goalie change by swapping in freshman Kendall Livingston for senior Avery Rogers, who recorded a pair of saves in the first half of play.
- The Thoroughbreds took the lead in the 64th minute after another Caporusso cross ricocheted off a Plattsburgh defender before dropping perfectly in front of Lewis, who was directly in front of the net, for the shoot and score to put Skidmore up 2-1.
- In the 75th minute, Skidmore converted on the much-needed insurance goal after a cross from senior Mikayla Dorrer connected with Verna for the score to give the Thoroughbreds the commanding 3-1 lead.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Lewis recorded her second career multi-goal game.
- Verna's goal marks her second of the season.
- Caporusso's assist was her first on the season and 12th of her career.
- Ryan recorded the first assist as a Thoroughbred.
- Dorrer's assist was her first on the season, and third of her career.
