Skidmore falls to top-seeded RPI in Liberty League Semifinals

Box Score ITHACA, NY – The Skidmore College men's tennis team saw its postseason run come to an end following a 4-0 defeat to top-seeded RPI in the Liberty League Semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

The loss concludes a solid debut season for the program under first year head coach AJ Nelson, with the team finishing 11-9 overall and a 5-3 mark in conference play. The Thoroughbreds qualified for the conference tournament as the four seed and secured a first round victory over fifth-seeded Vassar.

DOUBLES MATCHES
  • The Thoroughbreds battled in doubles play, with the second doubles pairing of junior Nika Mori and sophomore Fletcher King falling 6-3 to RPI's Okada and McCandless, and the third doubles duo of sophomore Harrison Gradin and junior Kyle Lundberg being edged out in a competitive 6-4 defeat to the Engineers' Luis Vega and Shah.
  • At the time of the doubles conclusion, the Thoroughbreds first doubles duo of sophomore Yuval Goodman and senior Griffin Biernat were ahead 5-3 over RPI's Drover-Mattinen and Zhu.
SINGLES MATCHES
  • In third singles, King fell to RPI's Yemula in straight sets after losing set one 6-3, followed by a 6-1 second set defeat.
  • In fourth singles, Mori fell to the Engineers' Okada after falling 6-1 in set one and 6-2 in set two.
  • In sixth singles, sophomore Adel Aissaoui took four games but was ultimately defeated by RPI's Luis Vega 6-1, 6-3.
