Skidmore eliminated from Liberty League Tournament by RPI

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team had its season come to an end on Saturday as it fell to Rensselaer 14-3 in a Liberty League Tournament elimination game.
  • Skidmore ends its season 21-17-2.
  • RPI is 27-14 and will advance to play host Ithaca in the championship round needing another win on Saturday and one more on Sunday to win the title.
  • RPI scored seven runs in the top of the first inning and extinguished multiple Skidmore threats to close the gap.
  • The first three Engineer batters walked in the top of the first. Then, after Skidmore starter Nick Palovich got the first out with a strikeout, RPI scored on an RBI ground out before Matt Chotiner hit a two-run single.
  • A hit batter, single, and back-to-back Skidmore errors finished off the seven-run first.
  • Eddie Galvao drove in Skidmore's first run with an infield single in the bottom of the first.
  • Quinn McDonald hit a two-out offering in the bottom of the second over the right field wall but was ruled out at home on appeal.
  • The Engineers added runs in the third and fourth to extend the lead to eight.
  • The Thoroughbreds hit into inning-ending double plays in both lead fourth and sixth innings.
  • Then, in the seventh, Skidmore scored twice on a Ewen Donald RBI single and wild pitch, but left the bases loaded.
  • RPI answered with two of its own in the eighth to quickly re-gain its 10-run cushion and finished the scoring with one more in the ninth.
  • Sam Kornet and Donald were both 3-for-5 for Skidmore.
  • Zachary Leiderman hit a pair of doubles and was 2-for-4 with a walk.
  • Mike Nelson gave RPI 6.1 innings of three-run ball for the win.
  • Chotiner finished 5-for-6 with five RBI. All of his hits were singles.
  • Ayush Krishnappa was 3-for-6 with a double – one of two RPI extra-base hits.
  • Sam Dalsimer pitched 1.2 innings of shutout relief for the Thoroughbreds.
