Skidmore hosting Rochester in Crossover Series rematch starting Friday at noon

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball team, the No. 1 seed from the Liberty League East Division, will host the University of Rochester this weekend in a best-of-three crossover series as Castle Diamond.
 
Due to the forecast of rain, the series structure has been shifted from the original schedule. The teams will play in a doubleheader on Friday, May 2, beginning at noon. Game three, if necessary, is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at noon. Skidmore will recognize its seven seniors on Friday following the completion of the day's games.

SKIDMORE:
  • The Thoroughbreds won the East Division for the third time in the past four seasons behind sweeps of Vassar and Bard, as well as a 2-1 series win over Rensselaer. Skidmore is 10-6 overall against Liberty League opponents.
  • Skidmore leads the Liberty League in hitting with a .321 team average.
  • The Thoroughbreds are also second in home runs (33), RBI (273), and on-base percentage (.431).
  • Sam Kornet leads the Liberty League with 11 home runs and is second with 47 hits.
  • Chase Siegel is the league leader with seven wins, while Quinn Hocom is second in strikeouts (58).
 
ROCHESTER:
  • The Yellowjackets have committed the fewest errors (37) of any team in the Liberty League.
  • Rochester also has more sacrifice bunts (28) than any other team in the conference.
  • Alexander Gonzalo ranks second in the conference with 35 RBI.
  • Josh Leadem ranks second with 28 stolen bases, but has also been caught stealing (7) more times than anybody in the Liberty League.
  • Colby Cruser (.392) and Jackson Reed (.385) rank fifth and sixth, respectively, in hitting.
  • On the mound, Sammy Rosenfield is second in the conference in ERA (2.86) and opposing batting average (.194).
 
SERIES:
  • Rochester defeated Skidmore two games to one in last year's crossover series in Rochester.
  • The season before, the Yellowjackets eliminated the Thoroughbreds from the conference tournament at Castle Diamond.
  • The Yellowjackets have won eight out of the last nine in the head-to-head series and are 33-11 since the spring of 2008.
 
NEXT:
  • The winner of the series will advance to the four-team double elimination Liberty League Tournament next week at a location to be determined (top overall seed remaining).
