Middlebury rallies past Skidmore, 13-7

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Skidmore College baseball team fell 13-7 to Middlebury in a non-league road game Sunday afternoon at the BB/SB Complex.
  • The Thoroughbreds (18-14-2) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, scoring one in the first, two in the second, and three more in the third.
  • Middlebury (21-10) answered with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth to cut the Skidmore lead to 6-5.
  • Skidmore added a run in the sixth inning before Middlebury scored eight unanswered runs, including six in the bottom of the eighth. Three players had two-run hits in the huge inning for the Panthers.
  • Nathan Samii, Ben Slaugher, and Isaac Rosario all homered for the hosts.
  • Zachary Leiderman led the Thoroughbreds with a 2-for-4 day, recording a double, a three-run home run, three RBI, and two runs scored.
  • Landon Schwartzman added a two-run home run as part of a two-hit, three-RBI effort.
  • Trey Bourque scored twice and reached base twice with a single and a hit-by-pitch.
  • Owen Roy had a 2-for-4 day with a walk.
  • Quinn Hocom started for Skidmore, allowing five runs over four innings with eight strikeouts.
  • Nick Palovich pitched three innings in relief, allowing two runs, while Jack Collins and Charles Modlin combined to finish the eighth inning.
  • The Thoroughbreds totaled eight hits and drew seven walks but struck out 12 times.
  • Stefano Yozzo pitched two innings of shutout relief to close it out and get the win for Middlebury. He struck out three.
UP NEXT
  • Skidmore has locked up the top seed in the Liberty League East Division with the results of league play over the weekend.
  • The Thoroughbreds will play local rival Sage on Tuesday before hosting a best-of-three crossover series next weekend for the right to play in the conference opponent. Game one of the series is on Friday with an opponent to be determined as play has not yet concluded in the West Division.
