No. 45 Thoroughbreds upset No. 33 Vassar in stable game matchup

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The No. 45 Skidmore College women's tennis team took down No. 33 Vassar, 5-2, for the first ranked victory of the season in a stable game matchup at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center on Wednesday afternoon.

DOUBLES MATCHES
  • The first doubles senior duo of Grace Truong and Konika Dhull led a doubles sweep by cruising past the Brewers' McCusker and Shen by a 6-1 margin.
  • In second doubles, the pairing of freshman Mia Sarzynska and senior Ella Provost took down Vassar's Li and Dowd by a final scoring of 6-3.
  • In third doubles, the Thoroughbreds duo of junior Beilynn Geiss and sophomore Coco Prokop fended off Vassar's Kirby and Duley, 6-4, to clinch the sweep.
SINGLES MATCHES
  • In first singles, Dhull won in straight sets over Vassar's McCusker after cruising to a 6-1 set one win that was followed by a nail-biting 7-5 second set victory to clinch the match.
  • In second singles, Truong fell in a competitive three-set battle against the Brewer's Li that saw the senior win the first set 6-4, before narrowly being edged out 5-7 in set two and ultimately falling 5-10 in the third set tiebreaks.
  • In third singles, Provost took care of business in straight sets after winning set one 7-6 after defeating Vassar's Lee 7-3 in tiebreaks. The senior followed up with a more comfortable 6-2 second set win to secure the match victory.
  • In fifth singles, Sarzynska won in comeback fashion against Vassar's Krishnan that saw the freshman fall 1-6 in set one before responding in the latter two sets with a pair of 6-2 set wins.
  • In sixth singles, Prokop won a comeback three-set victory over the Brewer's Duley in which the sophomore lost set one 1-6, before responding with a 6-3 second set win and completing the comeback with a 10-5 third set tiebreak victory.
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds are set to wrap up regular season action on the road next Sunday at Union. The match is set for an 11 AM start time.
