Skidmore unable to complete comeback in regular season finale vs. Norwich

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team scored two late goals to pull to within one, but it was not enough as the Thoroughbreds dropped a 4-2 decision to Norwich University on Saturday afternoon.
  • Skidmore fell behind 3-0, but goals with 7:32 and 3:25 remaining made it a one-goal game.
  • The Thoroughbreds continued to pressure, but the visiting Cadets scored on Skidmore's empty net to put an end to the comeback and finish the weekend off with a split.
  • Skidmore finished the regular season 13-12 overall and 11-9 in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) for 33 points.
  • The Thoroughbreds will be seeded fourth in the upcoming playoffs and will host No. 5 Salve Regina next Saturday in a quarterfinal game.
  • Norwich (13-9-3, 12-6-2) passed Babson to finish second in the conference and will host Albertus Magnus next weekend.
  • Seniors Ethan Heidepriem and Zach Lindewirth were the goal scorers for Skidmore.
  • Kevin Urquhart, Scott Lagos, Danny Magnuson, and Evan Brown all head assists.
  • Four different players scored the goals for Norwich.
  • After a scoreless first period in which Skidmore outshot Norwich 7-6, the visitors finally broke the ice just past the midway point of the second when Ben van Waterschoot scored a shorthanded goal.
  • The Cadets doubled their lead to two with 3:35 remaining in the second period on a Nick Cordeiro unassisted tally.
  • Matt Harvey scored the third for the visitors at the 5:11 mark of the third.
  • Heiderpriem got Skidmore on the board with his seventh of the year before Lindewirth netted his 10th with an extra Thoroughbred attacker on the ice to make it interesting late.
  • Skidmore attempted four shots the rest of the way. Norwich goalie Sami Molu stopped two of them, while Norwich skaters blocked the other two. The Cadets blocked 16 shots.
  • Molu finished with 27 saves as Skidmore outshot the guests 29-20. Joshua Seeley made 16 saves for Skidmore.

  • Skidmore will host Salve Regina at the Saratoga City Rink next Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in an NEHC Quarterfinal. The Thoroughbreds will be looking to make their fourth-straight semifinal appearance.
