Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thoroughbreds fall at home to RPI

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College men's basketball team was defeated by RPI, 75-43, in a Sunday matchup at the Williamson Sports Center.

The Thoroughbreds (5-14, 1-11 Liberty League) failed to knock down enough shots and tallied 16 turnovers against a tough defensive effort from the Engineers (16-3, 10-2 Liberty League), who capitalized by going up big at intermission before fully pulling away in the second half.

"You have to give credit to RPI, they came in here and played their game and we were not ready to go. I was concerned about us bouncing back after the tough loss Friday night and clearly, we let that game carry into today," said head coach Joe Burke.

"There is a lot of character checking going on right now. It's on me to make these guys better and make sure we have guys that can bounce back and are willing to fight when times are challenging. We are young but that is an excuse at this point, we need to continue to develop as the season winds down. The last six games for us will help me know how tough mentally and physically we are heading into the next season."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Thoroughbreds fell behind by nine points early in the game before the sophomore duo of Aidan Roy and Dillon McCafferty knocked in a pair of three-pointers to pull within one possession, 13-10, with 12:15 remaining.
  • RPI responded with an extensive 16-4 scoring run over the following eight minutes to pull ahead by 29-14 with 4:01 left on the clock.
  • At intermission, the Thoroughbreds found themselves in a 36-21 deficit. Roy led the first-half scoring efforts with a team-high nine points.
  • Coming out of halftime, the Engineers immediately went on a 14-1 run through the first six minutes to extend the advantage to a 50-22 margin and promptly pull away for good.
