SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The No. 30 Skidmore College women's tennis team lost a competitive home opener and inaugural match at the indoor courts of the McCaffery-Wagner Tennis Center by a 4-3 margin to Wellesley on Saturday afternoon.
DOUBLES MATCHES
- In the first doubles, the Thoroughbreds duo of Konika Dhull and Grace Truong clutched out a nail-biting 7-6 over Wellesley's Modak and Corte-Real in which the pairing won in tiebreakers, 10-8. After trailing 4-0 in the tiebreakers, the duo scored the 10 of the final 14 points to take the comeback win.
- In the second doubles, the Skidmore pairing of Ella Provost and Beilynn Geiss cruised to a comfortable 6-3 victory over Wellesley's Mariotti and Pak.
- In the third doubles, the Thoroughbreds duo of Juliette Ceas and Coco Prokop edged out Wellesley's Xu and Buttorff for the 7-5 victory. Tied up at 5-apiece, the pairing scored the next two to avoid tiebreakers and clinch the victory.
SINGLES MATCHES
- In first singles, Dhull fell to Wellesley's Modak in two competitive sets, losing the first set 6-4 and the second 7-5.
- In second singles, Truong lost in a hard-fought three-set match against Wellesely's Xu. After initially losing the first set in a tight 7-5 result, the senior forced a decisive third set by winning 6-3 in the second set, before ultimately losing 6-4 in the third and final set.
- In third singles, Provost cruised to a straight-sets sweep after beating Wellesley's Corte-Real 6-1, 6-3.
- In fourth singles, Geiss lost a tightly contested loss vs Wellesley's Buttorff after inititally losing tiebreaks in the first set to 7-6, before falling in a tightly fought 6-4 second set.
- In fifth singles, Prokop nearly forced a third set against Wellesley's Patel after first losing 6-3 in set one, before losing in tiebreaks in the second set 7-6.
- In sixth singles, Ceas secured a hard-fought third set victory after first winning the first set in tiebreaks, 7-6, before losing the second set in the same fashion, 7-6 to Wellesley's Sarav. In the third set, the freshman won the set in 10-6 fashion.
