Ball security key for Thoroughbreds in big road win at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team committed just one turnover all afternoon as it kept its hot streak going with a 63-46 win at RIT on Saturday afternoon.
  • The win, Skidmore's third in a row and fifth in its last six games, improves the season record to 12-11 with a 10-6 mark in the Liberty League.
  • RIT is also 12-11 and 10-6. The teams are tied for third, one ahead of Union and St. Lawrence, with two games left to play.
  • Skidmore was paced with five players scoring in double figures, led by senior Sarah Chambers who had 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.
  • Cassie Davidson, Claudia Schneider, and Sophia Martinez each scored 12. Davidson added five steals and four boards.
  • Madison Meyer had 10 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists.
  • Kaitlyn Bockelman was the leader of the Tigers with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from long range.
  • Ben Kayser-Cochran had 11 points and seven rebounds in the effort for RIT.
  • Skidmore took advantage of a turnover ratio of 15:1. The Thoroughbreds scored 16 points from the 15 RIT giveaways.
  • The Thoroughbreds led throughout and scored the afternoon's first six points on the way to doubling up the hosts, 16-8, in the first quarter.
  • RIT went without a point for over seven minutes as Skidmore began to pull away in the second, resulting in a 35-22 halftime lead.
  • The Tigers made a push in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to nine and then eight with 4:29 left. The Thoroughbreds were able to keep the Tigers at bay by scoring 11 out of the game's final 13 points for the 17-point final margin.

  • Skidmore closes the regular season next weekend at home against St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Saturday's game is the annual Big Green Scream event as well as Senior Day.
