Thoroughbreds secure postseason spot with win at William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team defeated William Smith College, 56-45, on Friday evening. The win clinches a spot for the Thoroughbreds in the Liberty League Tournament.
  • With three games left, Skidmore is 9-6 overall and tied with Union for fourth in the league. The Thoroughbreds are back to .500 at 11-11 overall.
  • William Smith is 2-20 overall and 2-13 in the conference.
  • The Thoroughbreds were led in the win by seniors Cassie Davidson and Sarah Chambers, who both scored 15. The pair also combined for 16 rebounds, eight steals, and three assists.
  • Chambers earned her third double-double of the season as she pulled in 12 rebounds.
  • Fellow senior Becca Horger scored 10 with five steals and three assists.
  • Sophomore Claudia Schneider had seven points along with eight boards.
  • Amelia McCulley paced the hosts with 13 points and four blocks. Ava Lobozzo had eight points and 10 rebounds.
  • Skidmore scored 10 of its 17 first-quarter points in the paint and 12 off turnovers.
  • Skidmore had a 29-3 edge in points off turnovers and outscored the Herons 36-16 in the paint overall.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored 17 more in the second period to lead 34-26 at recess.
  • Neither team could muster double-digit points in the third. William Smith won the quarter, 9-8, as both squads shot near 20 percent.
  • The Skidmore press came up huge in the fourth, forcing 12 William Smith turnovers, to help lock up the win.
  • The Thoroughbreds extend their streak to nine in a row over William Smith with the win.
  • Skidmore has now qualified for the playoffs for the fourth year in a row.
